William Wright has spent his career learning that the best outcomes in family law are rarely won. They are built, carefully and patiently, by people who feel informed enough to make good decisions.
That belief shapes everything about the way he practises.
Originally from New Zealand, William was admitted to practice in 2008 and has practised in Australia since 2012, working almost exclusively in family law for more than fifteen years across both countries. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours from the University of Canterbury. Over that time he has advised clients on the full breadth of parenting and property matters, including matters involving significant complexity and sensitive personal circumstances, and has acted for people from a wide range of personal and financial backgrounds.
That breadth of experience has given William a practical, considered approach to his work. He knows that no two family law matters are the same, and that every client needs advice shaped around their circumstances rather than a standard process. Clients describe him as approachable, calm, and pragmatic. He gives clear advice, identifies realistic pathways forward, and helps clients understand not just their options but the consequences of each one.
Like the whole team at Village Family Lawyers, William believes most matters are best resolved away from the courtroom, with less conflict, less cost, and less strain on everyone involved. At the same time, he is a strong and steady advocate when circumstances call for a firmer approach, and clients value knowing that both sides of that coin are available to them.
Outside of work, William is married with two young children, which gives him a first-hand appreciation of the family routines and relationships his clients are working to protect. When time allows, he enjoys reading, writing, staying active, and a long-standing love of music and performance, having played piano and classical guitar and performed in community theatre.
