Mornington Peninsula Family Lawyers

Our Story

Family lawyer Lauren Wilson established Village Family Lawyers to offer clients a personalised approach to separation and divorce.

Lauren and her team wholeheartedly believe that “it takes a village” for people to recover from separation and divorce and they collaborate with psychologists, mediators, financial advisers and other allied professionals to offer their clients holistic support during a difficult and stressful time. As parents themselves, the lawyers at Village Family Lawyers have an innate understanding of family dynamics.

They are experienced and down to earth lawyers and appreciate the importance of resolving family law issues in a calm and practical manner.

Our Family Law Services

We advise on all family law matters including:

  • Property and financial settlements
  • Parenting arrangements
  • Divorce
  • Family violence matters and intervention orders
  • De facto and same sex relationships
  • Alternative dispute resolution options – family dispute resolution, mediation, round table conferences, conciliation conferences
  • The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia proceedings.

Divorce and Separation

A divorce is the formal legal end to your marriage and can be obtained 12 months after your separation date. It is an important part of the process of severing all financial ties with your former spouse.

Whilst it is possible to make an application for divorce yourself, sometimes divorce applications are not always straightforward and can be time-consuming to complete.

Our personalised approach will provide you with practical family law advice and solutions that work for your separation or divorce.

Property Settlements

Following separation, it is likely that you will require a financial/property settlement.

The law in respect to property and financial matters is complex and how your assets, liabilities and superannuation will be divided will depend on many factors.

We are here to provide advice with respect to your entitlements and formulate a framework to resolve your property matter without resort to litigation.

Parenting Arrangements

We understand that negotiating parenting arrangements after a separation can be tricky. It is often the most emotional and anxiety-inducing aspect of the separation process.

We prioritise parenting issues over all other family law issues by taking a calm, measured and child-focused approach.

Our lawyers are parents themselves, so they naturally understand the emotional aspect of parenting matters.

Whilst we are very proud to state that we are able to negotiate favourable outcomes for our clients without the need to go to Court, we understand that sometimes Court proceedings are necessary.

For example, when a party refuses to disclose assets or when settlement counter-offers are completely unreasonable.

As your advocates, we will provide you with robust representation in Court.

It is our priority to ensure our clients receive our utmost attention throughout what can be, a very stressful process.

You will be kept well informed and advised of your options throughout the process.  We usually settle matters before the Final Court Hearing takes place.

Mediation is a great way for parties to resolve their parenting and property disputes with minimal involvement from lawyers.

We are strong advocates of mediation (in particular, for parenting matters) because the process can assist clients in maintaining control over the outcome.

We are able to guide you through the mediation process and provide you with preliminary legal and practical advice before your scheduled mediation.
